Musicians, Artists and Merchants Join Hands to Help Survivors
MONTCLAIR, NEW JERSEY (September 5, 2005) —Montclair restaurateurs Cheryl and Greg Spinelli announced today that they are organizing a fundraising event featuring local artists and musicians to collect donations forthe relief of survivors of Hurricane Katrina.The event, Church Street Cares, will take place on Church Street starting at on

Church Street Café will donate the evening’s profits to the Red Cross and provide gift certificates to be auctioned off during the event.“It’s just heartbreaking seeing the human suffering of all of those folks abandoned for days at the Superdome.We’re just trying to make some small contribution to help ease their plight,” said Greg Spinelli who along with his wife, Cheryl, owns Church Street Café.
“We decided to put this event together because people need to see that they're not alone in their distress over this situation,” Cheryl Spinelli added.“It is important for people to be able to publicly participate with others in the community to help ease the suffering.”
The musical portion of the event will feature
Montclair
groove artist Caté. Caté is well known throughout the area for his band’s smooth funky and soulful sound. He will be donating a portion of each CD he sells to the Red Cross to help aid in the relief efforts of the hurricane victims.
Many local artists, including Eric Levin, Glynn Young, Bob Tee & Andy Cohen will display their work for sale and donate a portion of the sale price to the cause.
Local merchants have expressed interest in participating and it is expected that a significant number will make contributions of gift certificates to be auctioned during the event.
